"If scientists and inventors are the master of technology, how about the rest of us?"
Topic
Human Inbox
Background
"If nanotechnology maintains its current pace of development, it will give birth to a computer that has the information processing capacity equivalent to every human brain combined by 2060."
- Jeong Kim, Bell Labs' president
Technology has improve the way people feed, clothe and shelter themselves. Technology has also changed other aspects of everyday life, such as health care, education, job satisfaction and leisure time activities.
It appears that as technology advances, it will continue to play an increasingly significant role in the future and shape of mankind. We must remember that whatever technology does to our lives, technology in itself is not to blame, but rather how we use it. We as human need to become aware of bad and good aspect of technology. There are difference between using the technology to support our life and overuse the technology without knowing the actual purpose of the technology. Humans should not become so dependent on technology that it dictates the way in which we live our lives, and the fundamental decisions we make. Technology is certainly a virtue of human intelligence, but we must be careful not to phase ourselves out, and create more wrong than good. In conclusion I would say that technology should be used to support our efforts, but not replace our efforts.
Problem Identification
- we rely a lot on technology
- a lot of people dedicate their lives to the technology.
- new technology make human less productive and removing the life out of us as human being.
- overuse the technology without knowing the purpose.
- we use technology way too much, to the point where it might be using us.
- technology kills how human suppose to interact. We dont physically see each other, people do not want to interact with other people anymore.
Ideation or Concept
'Human Inbox' is an interactive art about how a person become so obsess with technology until they become part of technology (or slave to technology). The idea behind this installation is how we as human are too depend on technology until it defined the way we live. Technology is created to support our efforts not to entirely replace our efforts. For this installation I have narrow down the technology to computer technology because computer has given more extension to human than any other technology.
'Human Inbox' is a combination of Multi-touch Technology and Interactive Video.
For this installation, visitors will see a box that has screen on top of it. The content of the video is a virtual human. This will give the illusion that an actual human is inside the box. Visitors are able to select option to instruct the virtual human(slave).
Aim and Objectives
- To create awareness on how much we depend on technology until it removes the life out of human being.
- To show that technology need us as much as we need technology
Motivation
- Experiment with Multi-touch hardware and software.
- To improve knowledge on hardware-software integration.
